Former NBA star and current Chinese Basketball Association standout Stephon Marbury is in Manila to promote his “Starbury” shoe and apparel line and also to announce his support for the Ahon Pamilyang Lansangan Foundation Inc., an organization which helps liver transplant patients.

In a press conference dubbed as “Bigger than Basketball” at the NPC office in Intramuros, Manila on June 25, Marbury greeted young basketball fans as he was welcomed by National Press Club (NPC) President Benny Antiporda.

“This is the first time, other than China, that I’ll be doing this. This not just about basketball, but it’s about life,” Marbury said. “It is something that I want to do. Sport is a great avenue to reach people who are in need.”

“To be able to come here, to be able to use sports, use my brand to help, it’s given me great joy,” Marbury added.

Marbury, who played 13 seasons in the NBA and is currently with the 2012 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) champions Beijing Ducks, chose to help some 30-plus children with liver-related sickness also known as biliary atresia.
